New Guild Studio designed and produced all of the following work shown in this portfolio:
Color Scheme and Decorative Painting
Beginning its life as a gymnasium, Sacred Heart of Mary Church has been transformed by New Guild Studio into what you see here.
The ceiling of the Church is divided into segments through the use of color and painted design work. This creates a visual path from the entrance to the altar. It also generates the illusion of height to diffuse the low ceiling. The Sanctuary was redesigned to include a semi-circular ceiling bulkhead and bordering pilasters to define the liturgical area. Ceiling and wall ornamentation were hand-painted to embellish these newly created architectural features.
Liturgical Furniture
The altar, ambo and baptismal font were custom designed to make use of exterior stone architectural elements that were rescued from Sacred Heart of Mary Parish's previous church building. Columns from the original Parish structure were implemented in the creation of the new Altar of Sacrifice. A limestone mensa, capitols and base complete the design. The re-use of the salvaged historical architectural capitol from the original Church was implemented in the creation of the new flowing water Baptismal font. A new limestone bowl and plinth complete the design. A new Presider's Chair was custom designed and built in oak.
Sacred Art
New Guild Studio designed and created a mural of "Christ, the Divine Mercy," painted with artist's oil colors on canvas.
Statuary
The statuary at the rear of the Church and the Crucifix suspended from the altar ceiling have all been repaired and repainted to restore them to their glorious imagery. A new oak cross was fabricated for the corpus.
Additional Renovations
A new lighting and dimming system was designed and installed, the existing sound system was updated, the existing concrete floor was refinished, and the pew layout was altered to correspond with the renovated liturgical space.
